How to join a GTA RP server
Half an hour from a copy of GTA V to your first conversation in character. Six steps; only one of them (the whitelist) can slow you down.
- 1Own GTA V on PCAny legal copy works: Steam, Rockstar Launcher or Epic. Launch it once so it finishes installing. Consoles can't run FiveM, so there is no GTA RP on PlayStation or Xbox.
- 2Install FiveMDownload it from fivem.net and run the installer. It runs beside GTA V, doesn't touch your Rockstar install, and is allowed by Rockstar (they bought the team behind it in 2023).
- 3Pick a serverUse the beginner list or the full ranking. Every server page here has a Join via FiveM button and the server's join code.
- 4ConnectClick the join button, or in FiveM press F8 and type connect cfx.re/join/CODE. First connection downloads the server's files; big cities can take a few minutes.
- 5Whitelisted? Apply firstJoin the server's Discord (linked in its FiveM description), find the application channel, and answer honestly. Most want your age, mic check and a short character idea. Expect a day or two.
- 6Make a character and talkCreate your look, spawn, and say hello to the first person you see. Roleplay is a conversation; nobody minds a newcomer who asks where the job centre is.
Questions people ask before their first night
- Is GTA RP free?
- FiveM is free. You need a paid copy of GTA V on PC. Some servers sell queue priority or cosmetics; none can sell you an advantage, by FiveM's rules.
- Can I play GTA RP on PS5 or Xbox?
- No. Roleplay servers are PC mods. GTA Online on console has no RP servers.
- Will GTA 6 have RP servers?
- Not at launch. GTA 6 arrives 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox only, with no PC version and no mod support. RP as it exists today will stay on GTA V for a long while.
- Do I need a microphone?
- Practically yes. Text-only servers exist (GTAWorld is the biggest English one) but the vast majority are voice.
- Why am I in a queue?
- The server is full. Open servers over about 95% full at peak queue everyone without priority. Try an hour earlier, or a server lower down the ranking.
